The Tango
The tango is a dance which reflects the personality of the dancer; this is why the tango has many faces. The image of the glamourous couples with the woman in a glossy dress and high heels is the most well known. Much less known is the social salon type of tango, which is danced by most dancers. Then again, in the salon several different styles of tango are danced, for instance the milonguero style.
The dancers touch eachother with their upper bodies. In this way they have a very direct contact. You’ll feel a sensation of two becoming as one; this style is danced by the elder dancers in BsAs. In the salon, the space available for the dancers is in the salon is usually limited and demands skilled maneuvering.
Our Tango
Our tangodancing is a fusion between the milonguero and the salon style. This has been developing because of a preference for leading with the chest combined with the need for freedom of movement. We want to be close and enjoy complex movements. In our dancing there is a constant action and reaction, a merging of communication and improvisation. We are continuously searching for new developments. To us, comparisons with Jazz and the Indian music are a source of inspiration for finding ways of communicating between eachother and the music. As an new instrument of the music we sometimes follow the bass line, sometimes the melody, between us the feeling of the ultimate solo, the feeling of soul, jazz, blues, the intimite connection in tango.
Tango Salon
Enthousiastic salon dancers alike, we love to host our own dance evening where we provide an enjoyable atmosphere. Jur has been host of the B&W café salon, and has built a large audience. Together we have been organising the salon at ‘Het Vindingrijk’. Unfortunately this has been only for a short period of time, but from January 2001 we will organise a fixed site for the tuesday evening dancers at Café-restaurant ‘Moeders Mooiste’. We hope again to be host to a large number of dancers. We ourselves will take care of the music in shifts. We favor the orchestras of the 40’s and 50’s, together with the later creations of Troilo and Pugliese. Jur takes care of the music at several other events. See our additional information at the page ‘Salons’. By visiting other salons all over Europe we continue to interchange inspiration and ideas with other dancers. These contacts inspire others to travel or to come and visit us as well. In this way the whole tango experience increases. We emphasize movement techniques, improvisation, body position, contact and musicality. We especially want to transfer the creative experience of dancing in a close embrace.
