Tangomusic for beginners

Before you start looking for tangomusic,to practice, it’s important to know when the good music is recorded. The tango dance and music have developed in different directions, so it’s very easy to buy undanceble music. This could be nice to listen to but will not help your dancing.

In the period between 1935 and 1945 the best tangodancemusic has been recorded. Before that the music is less dynamic, after that the avant-garde sets in.

Dancers want a steady rhythm. The orchestras from this era are known the be playfull and sharp within the boundrees of the rhythm. Beginning dancers still need a lot of there time for leading the woman and looking around them to make sure they don’t bump into anything. More advanced dancers like to interpret the intencion of the singer or instuments. The sound of the 50’s and 60’s can be a nice addition to the repertoire.

Juan D’Arienzo (the king of rhythm esp. 1935 and 1943)

Osvaldo Pugliese (very dancable up to 1946 after that the music is very demanding but strong and romantic. Is used a lot in shows and demo’s)

This list is not complete but these are the most important names to look for. See this as a guideline. At this moment there are also a lot of orchestra’s and bands that use elctronics.
